01

Define your backup priorities

Make a list of the appliances or circuits you care about most. Distinguish essential loads from nice-to-have loads and discuss which equipment can operate together.

02

Ask how energy will be replenished

For a battery proposal, discuss stored energy, operating loads and any proposed solar integration. For a generator proposal, discuss fuel arrangements and the responsible providers.

03

Compare the complete project

Compare more than the equipment price. Identify electrical work, siting, permitting, transfer or control equipment, commissioning and any other trades in each proposal.

04

Understand ongoing responsibilities

Ask about applicable manufacturer care, maintenance, monitoring, connectivity and warranty conditions. Record who will help with equipment support and installation workmanship.

05

Avoid a generic runtime promise

The loads, equipment configuration and use pattern matter. Ask for a property-specific explanation rather than assuming a single battery count or product label guarantees whole-home backup.
